Accessibility Statement
Lorain City Schools is committed to making earlycollegelhs.com usable by every prospective student, parent, and family member — including those who navigate the web with assistive technology.
Last reviewed: May 2026 · Target conformance: WCAG 2.2 level AA
Conformance target · WCAG 2.2 AA1. What we have implemented
- Semantic HTML5 with proper landmark elements (
<header>,<main>,<nav>,<footer>, sections witharia-labelledby). - Skip-to-content link as the first focusable element on every page.
- Keyboard navigation for every interactive control — forms, buttons, the staff portal, the dismiss-ribbon close, the FAQ accordions.
- Visible focus indicators with a 2px silver outline at 3px offset on every focusable element.
- Color contrast meets WCAG 2.2 AA for normal and large text (4.5:1 / 3:1) on the dark-navy theme.
- Reduced-motion compliance — animations honor
prefers-reduced-motion: reduceand pause for users who request it. - Alt text on every meaningful image; decorative graphics use
alt=""andaria-hidden="true". - Form labels are explicitly associated with inputs; required fields are marked both visually and with the
requiredattribute. - Live regions on form feedback (
role="alert") so screen readers announce success and errors. - Resizable text — layout reflows cleanly up to 200% browser zoom without horizontal scrolling.
- Self-hosted variable fonts with system-font fallbacks if downloads fail.
2. Known limitations
We are aware of and working on:
- The Cloudflare Turnstile bot-detection widget on the contact form is operated by a third party and may behave inconsistently with some assistive technologies. If you cannot complete it, you can always email [email protected] directly.
- The hero crest is a complex image; we provide an empty
aria-hidden="true"wrapper because the same information appears immediately below in heading text.
3. Assistive technologies supported
The site has been tested with current versions of:
- VoiceOver on macOS and iOS (Safari)
- NVDA on Windows (Firefox, Chrome)
- Keyboard-only navigation (Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, Esc)
- Browser zoom 100% – 200%
4. Report an accessibility barrier
If you encounter a page, control, or piece of content on this site that is not accessible to you, please tell us. We treat accessibility issues as production bugs and respond promptly.
